What is a rhetorical question?
A question asked for effect, not expecting an answer. Example: 'Who wouldn't want to be happy?'
What is a simile?
A figure of speech comparing two unlike things using 'like' or 'as.' Example: She runs like the wind.
Define: OBSOLETE
No longer produced, used, or needed; out of date.
Define: AMBIGUOUS
Open to more than one interpretation; unclear or uncertain in meaning.
What does 'tone' mean in a reading passage?
The author's attitude toward the subject or audience, e.g., sarcastic, solemn, enthusiastic, or critical.
Define: SKEPTICAL
Not easily convinced; having doubts or reservations about something.
What does 'passage support' mean in reading comprehension?
Evidence from the text—specific details, examples, or quotes—that backs up an answer or claim.
What does 'summarize' mean?
To briefly restate the main points of a passage in your own words, leaving out minor details.
Define: PROTAGONIST
The main character in a story or literary work, typically the hero or central figure.
What strategy helps with analogy questions?
Create a bridge sentence: '[Word A] is a type of [Word B]' or '[Word A] is used to [do something to Word B].'
